Chemistry Coursework Aim: To find out the effect heating a reactant has on the speed of reaction. Prediction: I believe that by heating up a reactant, the reaction will be faster to complete. I believe this because by heating up a substance, it will have more kinetic energy, so the particles will move faster. Heating the reactant will also cause the activation energy needed to be less, because the atoms will already have more energy and the bonds would be starting to break due to the vibrations caused by heating the reactant. By moving faster, the particles will collide with more other particles, so the reaction will be quicker to complete. This is proven by the collision theory. The collision theory states that for chemical reactions to occur, particles must collide with a certain amount of energy and that the more collisions there are in a given time, the faster the reaction.
