Introduction In this coursework I intend to use economic theory to explain how supermarkets in my local area compete for custom. Supermarkets compete against each other in order get more customers and increase their profits and market shares. This is how these businesses become dominant, and this is known as Competition theory. The supermarkets that I will compare are the four main supermarkets in the United Kingdom. These supermarkets are ASDA, Safeway, Sainsbury's and Tesco. These supermarkets dominate small shops and markets because they have so much more to offer and are much more convenient. The reason why they are more convenient is that now you can buy food, drink, clothing, electrical goods, medicines, and music and other things all under one roof.
