Strokes can affect anyone but they are more common in the older population and those who suffer from high blood pressure or other circulatory disorders. The effect of a stroke depends on how much, and which part, of the brain is affected. Major strokes can be fatal. However, many people make complete recoveries from minor strokes. Many, perhaps most, strokes can be prevented. The most effective treatment for a stroke is to prevent it from occurring in the first place.
