This research was conducted in regards to the efficacious gap between treatment approaches or practices and research that implement "best practices". The issue is that the onset of substance abuse, underage drinking, and tobacco use is at its best without the aid of "best practices" within substance abuse treatment centers (Mersy, 2003). Without intervention and application of an emerging base of "evidence-based models" in substance abuse treatment, our society will progress towards a more complex and deep-rooted association with delinquency, addiction, crime, and prison making the failure of substance abuse treatment more costly (Information, 2003).
