Freedom from discrimination Everyone has the right to be treated equally, no matter what age, gender, sexuality, disability or race and culture. Freedom from discrimination is very important as discrimination can cause; withdrawal, low self- esteem, depression, aggression, feeling insecure, loss of confidence, poor mental and physical health. An example of discrimination: A resident may not like bacon because of her ethnic customs, religious or moral beliefs. People who do not like meat are labelled by the carer as fussy. The carer is discriminating against people who do not think the way she does. The carer is also forcing opinions on a powerless service user.
