HMO's provide comprehensive care for patients and their families for a monthly premium. (Definition, 2003) In the article I read, "The Evolution of an HMO, Hands-On Experience for the North Carolina Physicians" written by Robert H. Bilbro, it described the life and death of an HMO created in Central North Carolina by local physicians. This paper will highlight what happened to this local North Carolina HMO, and review the current health care environment of North Carolina. Instead of the traditional system where people pay for services as they need it, HMO's require people pay for services before they need the service.
