It is well known that post menopausal women with oestrogen deficiency are at a greater risk of developing osteoporosis. Oestrogen therapy has been shown to be effective in the prevention of postmenopausal bone loss and maintaining bone mineral density. Prevention of osteoporosis is important due to the increasing number of women at risk and the high cost of treating this condition. The study was based in the United States yet other first world western countries such as Australia will find results to be similar and hence of value.
