Rationale School is a central experience of all our childhoods. It has the power to make you happy or miserable and to shape your view of yourself. Whatever else is happening in your life, you are expected to attend it 5 days a week, 40 weeks a year, at least from the age of 5 to 16. For this if for no other reason, the education of children in care is a matter of great importance (Sonia Jackson 2001). Education directly impacts on your quality and enjoyment of life. Low education attainment contributes to increased likelihood of social exclusion in later life and both low attainment and subsequent social exclusion have high social and economic costs (Social Exclusion Unit 2003).
