Have a little read: ... Zen Buddhism is practiced mainly in Japan. It originated from China,where it is called Ch'an. The religion emphasizes a close relationship between a master and his disciples. Zen has developed distinctive practices that are designed to lead to a state of spiritual enlightenment called satori. Many followers of Zen Buddhism believe that satori comes in a flash of light, but others believe that satori is achieved through a long process of self-discipline, meditation, and instruction. Buddhist belief is based on the teaching called dharma. Buddha means "awakened" or "enlighted one" and is the title given to Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism. Buddha preached that existence was continuing cycle of death and rebirth. Buddha said man could break out of the cycle by eliminating any attachments to worldly things. By separating from such attachments, a man would gain a kind of perfect peace and happiness that Buddha called nirvana. Meditation
