BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCES ASSIGNMENT YEAR 2 SEMESTER 2 Introduction "Illness can be defined as a set of unpleasant feelings that may or may not accompany disease," (Aggleton, 1994, pg 7). The term health can be divided into 2 types. The understanding of an official view, are views of doctors and other health care professionals. Lay beliefs are those not professionally involved in the health care. The term health is much harder to define, as it varies depending on the individual's feelings about their health. "Not everybody has the same threshold of pain, or the same expectations about what counts as abnormal symptoms," (Hart, 1992, pg 2). An example of this is older people may have different health expectations compared to the younger generation. Like this there are many other factors that affect how an individual would perceive their health, and thus show illness behaviours. As well as age these factors include, gender social class...
