Controlling Infectious Disease in Poor Countries It is possible to control infectious disease in the world's poorest countries. Throughout the world, communities have mobilised to use their knowledge, skills and resources to reverse the devastating impact of killer diseases such as pneumonia. In poorer countries pneumonia is classed as a killer disease because there is not the correct medical attention available to deal with the spread. Breakthroughs are occurring within the poorer countries, but they are not being recognised and therefore many developing countries do not believe that disease can be controlled. The main cause of control is medical attention. If more people have direct access to medical attention then more deaths can be prevented. It is estimated that one in two pneumonia deaths can be prevented if people have direct medical access. More widespread use of low cost vaccines, vitamin A supplements, oral re-hydration salts, and inexpensive antibiotics could prevent millions...
