"Sex is biological, gender psychological" (Stoller in Glover & Caplan 2000, p.xxi) It is difficult to begin to discuss the nature of male and female behaviour and its causes without first standardising the language used in order to avoid being caught up in the confusion of sex/gender definition. It has been argued that the word sex relates to the visible, anatomical differences that denote whether a person is male or female. However as this definition relies on the assumption that humanity is dimorphic, a species of two sexes, it may be that a more relevant term to use would be gender. The word stereotype could be seen as controversial in itself as it implies a generalisation of the behaviours and traits specific to male or female. In order to discuss the issues...
