The Future of the British Railway System The future of the British Railway system is a widely debated topic with the masses believing that 'rebuilding the railways is going to take time' (The Economist, 2001, page 37). The current situation, with bankers struggling to make sense of the mess left by the bankruptcy of Britain's network operator, leaves many predicting the inevitable bankruptcy of railtrack. When studying the future of railtrack we must take in to consideration the future of the shareholders of the company. Over the past two years the share price of railtrack has decreased from £18 to £3.50 (http://www.nybooks.com/articles/14350) leaving many investors close to financial collapse.
