July 1st, 1997 witnessed Hong Kong, the long lost child of China, returning home. Hong Kong had been occupied by British colonists sine 1842, when the Treaty of Nanking ceded the territory to the British. Afterwards, Britain gained Kowloon, Stonecutters Island and New Territories, which makeup today's Hong Kong region. Hong Kong has its colorful past from the pirates to Trader Barons, while it presents a more interesting and guessed future to the world. Will Hong Kong be able to keep up its prosperity and economic growth under the new management of the communist ownership? Will the basic policy of "One Country, Two Systems" really work for a long time? These questions are asked in many people's minds.
