In order to examine culture change, it is important to define what "culture" is. Unfortunately, there is some confusion as to its modern meaning. Schneider and Rentsch (1987) make a clear distinction between "climate" and "culture" (climate meaning the ways things are done in the organisation and culture being why they are done that way). Deal and Kennedy (1982) take the more pragmatic view that culture is simply 'the way we do things around here'. But there seems to be no consensus on the definition of culture.
