What do you understand by The Notion of Visual Culture? Notion; a vague idea, intuition, an idea, concept or opinion an inclination or whim, Visual being another word for optical; to be capable of being seen and to see to be seen is visible. Culture being the beliefs, values and knowledge which constitute the shared basis of social action, attitudes, feelings, values that characterize and inform Society as a whole or any social group within it. On understanding visual culture I intend to explore the writings of Mathew Arnold who was a critic in the nineteenth century his essay entitled Culture and Anarchy (Cambridge University Press, London 1932) to today's bookmen of visual culture. The books I intend to discuss and compare in essence will be firstly from Mathew Arnold's time to today's bookmen on the study of Visual Culture.
