... Title: Periodic variation of atomic properties of the elements To illustrate the periodic variation of properties of elements, as embodied in the Periodic Table, two relatively simple properties (trends of atomic radius with atomic number and variation of first ionization energy with atomic number)have been selected and their periodic behavior is discussed here of the properties against the atomic number. To make the comparison, we should have a clear concept on election cloud and the atomic orbitals. The electron cloud is used to describe the distribution of probability of the electron in the space. The diffuse electron cloud for the 1s electron in hydrogen atom is spherical in shape but the density of charge is not uniform throughout the cloud. We can roughly define that the volume of space in which there is a 95% or 90% chance of finding the electron is called the atomic orbitals. On the model,
