Colloidal Chemistry Research Project What are colloids? A colloid is a substance that is composed of extremely small particles of one material (the dispersed phase) evenly and stably distributed in another material (the dispersing phase/the continuous phase). In colloids the size of the dispersed particles (1-1000nm) are less than that of the particles in a suspension, but greater than that of molecules in a true solution, therefore a colloid is not a true solution but it is not a suspension either as it will not settle out like a suspension will over time. Types of colloids? The three forms in which all matter exist is solid, liquid and gas.
