... TITLE Who are you? An investigation into whether children's answers to this question vary according to age. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to see if Rosenberg's theories on the development of self in children could be supported. Two participants, an 8 year old and a 16 year old were interviewed and their responses analysed according to Rosenberg's PCRI categories. In addition they were queried on their locus of self knowledge which Rosenberg believed shifted over time. The results concurred with Rosenberg, the younger child using Physical and Character traits to describe herself and the older child's response being more widely spread across the four categories with a slightly higher percentage in the Relationship and Inner categories. The study could therefore conclude that results supported the earlier findings and research - as children develop, so does their sense of self.
