The most important factor in successful second language acquisition is motivation. Discuss. Within education a student's motivational level plays a key role in determining how much second language acquisition will occur. Motivation, an entity that everyone possesses varies from one individual to another, this maybe due to personal factors such as their confidence, health, lifestyle etc of the learner. Hence, these differences determine ones goals, future aspirations and ideals. According to Gardner (1985) motivation plays an important role in second language acquisition, because it is "the extent to which the individual works or strives to learn the language because of a desire to do so and the satisfaction experienced in this activity.' The study of motivation in SLA is understood clearly by the psychological perspectives put forward by academics.
