The link between creativity and mental illness has been under scrutiny for hundreds of years. Many early scholars have referenced the possibility of a link. Schizophrenia, mood disorders, personality and substance abuse disorders have seen the most research on the link between creativity and mental illness. There has been no rock solid base of evidence to support a clear link. However there has been enough evidence to suggest that more research needs to be done on mood, personality and substance abuse disorders. While researchers are still very interested in the link between schizophrenia and creativity there has been little evidence to suggest that there is a significant link.
