An Introduction to Disability Issues Assignment 1a Discuss the attitudes towards disability of societies through the ages. Disability is something that can affect anyone no matter of race, creed or age. We can become disabled through illness, accident or age. Although attitudes towards disability have changed over the ages there is still a negative stigma attached to disability. In this essay, we will look at some of these attitudes and how disabled people were treated through the ages. In ancient times if a baby was born disabled they were rejected and cast out. The Greeks portrayed an image of a beautiful body so any children born with disabilities were often thrown into the river or left out in the woods for the wolves. In Rome, games at the Coliseum were arranged for people's entertainment, which would have included dwarfs fighting women, disabled children being thrown in front of horses and blind people fighting each...
