Have a little read: ... Coeliac disease, originally thought to occur only rarely in childhood, is now recognised as a common condition that could be diagnosed at any age. This essay discusses the pathophysiology of coeliac disease on Kirsty, 23 years old woman who studies in the university and works part time. It also talk about the nutritional need of the patient in relation to the disorder and the impact of the nutrition on the short and long term effect of the disease. Coeliac disease is characterized by malabsorption of nutrients, chronic inflammation and damage of the small intestinal mucosa caused by the ingestion of gliadin fraction of wheat gluten and similar alcohol-soluble proteins (proline) of barley and rye in genetically susceptible subjects (Craig, Robins & Howdle, 2007).
