Introduction Erectile dysfunction, or impotence, is a sexual dysfunction where men cannot maintain an erection of the penis for satisfactory sexual intercourse. It is a problem that can occur in men of any age, but mostly occurs in older men who have additional health problems such as heart disease or diabetes, or who may be taking medications that affect their erectile function (1). This can cause emotional and relationship problems and can lower ones self esteem. There are men that experience chronic complete erectile dysfunction, and those that experience only partial or brief moments of inability to hold an erection (2). It has a high prevalence affecting 50% of men 40-70 years of age, however it is not an inevitable pert of aging (3).
