The Formation of ENIAC and its Relevance to the History of Computing This essay will look at the development of ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer), the gigantic valve based machine credited with starting the modern computer age. After researching other suitable topics I decided that this topic was of most interest to me because it was the first widely known general-purpose electronic computer and in my opinion was a significant step forward in the history of computing and to society as a whole. World War II was a time of great technological advancement, the most significant development being the electronic computer. There are many stories about how the computer came into being, but the most exciting story is that of ENIAC.
