Silica Aerogels - Materials Coursework John McCarthy Introduction - I have decided to investigate the properties and uses of silica aerogels after reading an article about their use on the Mars Rover Space Mission, where they were used to insulate electrical components. This folder is divided into three sections - the first contains all of the sources I gathered as research, including comments on their usefulness; the second is an interpretation of the sources based on what my presentation will focus on, in the form of an information booklet about silica aerogels; the final section displays printouts of the actual presentation itself. Briefly, the presentation and information booklet centres around a number of applications of silica aerogels both in the present and (possibly) in the future.
