How Big IP Works A user on the Internet, in theory makes a request for a local weather report. The request is routed across the Internet until the Active Big IP of the external redundant system intercepts it. Once the intercepted, the Big IP inspects the packet. It then extracts session variables that it uses to determine how to route the request. Using the variables, the Big IP examines it's own connection table to determine if the packet is a new request or part of an existing one. If it is the first packet of a new request, no match should be found. Using the destination IP and part of the information previously extracted from the packet, the Big IP examines its configured virtual servers to determine the best group of resources for servicing the request. Once a match is found the Big IP further inspects its configuration to determine the pool, or firewalls...
