CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.0 Introduction This report presents work conducted for the final year dissertation based on the design and develop of an e-commerce web site, as partial fulfilment of the BSc Honours Computer Science Degree at the university of Hertfordshire. Toyland is an e-commerce web site, which specialises in selling children's toys. 1.1 Project Motivation Factors, which motivated me to produce this project, were mainly due to my interest in database driven web sites. I had no prior knowledge of any web design languages such as HyperText Markup Language (HTML) which was the primary language used to create the front end for the system. At the commencement of the project I was familiar with object oriented methodology such as Unified Modelling Language (UML), used to describe and model the intended system at various stages of the project life- cycle.
