Alan Turing. "Eccentric, solitary, gloomy, vivacious, resigned, angry, eager, dissatisfied --- these had always been his ever-varying characteristics, and despite the strength that he showed the world in coping with outrageous fortune, no-one could safely have predicted his future course." Alan Turing was born on 23 June 1912; he was the last child of Julius Matheson and Ethel Sara Turing. The Turing's were not rich but upper-middle-class in the English class system. His father Julius worked for the Indian Civil Service, in the Madras Presidency, and had there met and married Ethel Sara Stoney. Although conceived in British India, Alan Turing was born in a nursing home in Paddington, London. Alan Turing was the Founder of Computer Science, the original man behind the dominant technology of the late twentieth century, he may yet be seen in a different light in the future however, as the founder of computers.
