'Are black teenagers negatively stereotyped in the media?' - A study of racial stereotypes in the press Unfortunately, ethnic minorities get victimized in every day life, this is sadly how today's world has panned out. People seem to categorise different races, cultures and seem to put them in boxes. You may think just categorising people is fine but it is not. Categorisation leads is the first stage to stereotyping which then leads up to prejudice and then finally discrimination1. However, it is the stereotyping factor that can be the main problem that leads to a lot of negativity and prejudice. One culture that suffers from this is young black teenagers. They seem to be continually stereotyped to be criminals or gangsters, especially in the media. 'An open forum between journalists, media workers and street organization members about the black teenager/gangster stereotype, and the role of the media in 'moral panics'.'2 So,...
