They read through press releases and news reports from agencies such as Reuters and The Press Association. After the editors have assessed these stories and any stories that the reporters may have suggested, they create a list of news events which are to be covered in the paper the next day. The name given to this is the news list. Planned events, e.g. court cases, festivals, campaigns and political events will have been organized in advance. This means that the newspaper company has more time to organize newer events such as kidnappings, robberies, thefts etc... which need immediate response.
