Assignment #5 - Rhetorical Analysis of Michaelle Jean's Speech Coms 361 The formal speech presented by Michaelle Jean when receiving her honorary doctorate in June of 2006 was carefully planned out and executed with a clear thesis in mind. She paid careful attention to detail throughout in regards to rhetoric and overall presented a well-delivered and persuasive speech to her audience. In order to analyze her speech thoroughly, it is important first to understand more about her background as a speaker. At the time she was giving this speech, she had been appointed Governor General of Canada for a little over 8 months. Before then, she had been an award winning journalist and broadcaster for CBC and Radio Canada, therefore having extensive amounts of experience in both writing and speaking publicly.
