Newspaper Price Wars Although attracting new readers has always been one of the main objectives of newspaper companies, the current circulation war between the tabloids (The Sun and The Mirror in particular) is seen to have hit new heights of frenzy. The Mirror, previously The Daily Mirror, has cut its cover price to just 10p in Scotland. This follows its attempt to re-position itself as a serious mid-market title. Its tried to achieve this in a number of different ways, dropping the red top from the papers cover, trying to move away from gossipy entertainment news to more serious journalism instead. To compete with this The Sun has hit back with a price cut of its own, reducing its cover price down to just 20p. Although this attempt to attract new readers is most obvious (and ruthless) in the tabloids, other papers, including Broadsheets, have also joined in the hunt...
