(Robert Fisk, writer for the Independent)1 From the above one can learn that The Independent, supposedly, is an independent newspaper sitting in the centre of the paradigm (McNair: 1998), hence one may assume that the Independent is void of overt and covert bias, neither leaning towards the left nor to the right, although many academics argue this view claiming that the Independent is not totally impartial. Newspapers are 'arenas' for diverse groups of ideologies to articulate opinions and political debate (McNair: 1998); a claim by any to newspaper to be totally void of bias (covert/overt) is far fetched.
