Which film technique does M. Night Shyamalan use to create tension in 'The Sixth Sense'? 'The Sixth Sense' was directed by M. Night Shyamalan in 1999. He also directed 'The Village' (2004), 'Unbreakable' (2000) and 'Wide Awake' (1998). In 'The Sixth Sense' the director uses colour, camera angles, sound and lighting to create tension in the film. 'The Sixth Sense' is about Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) who is determined to help a young boy named Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment), after the suicide of his ex-patient Vincent Grey (Donnie Wahlberg). Vincent and Cole share the same problem - they see dead people! One of the themes in 'The Sixth Sense' is communication. There are many different forms of communication in this film, such as Malcolm communicating with his wife, Anna Crowe (Olivia Williams); Cole with his mother, Lynn Sear (Toni Collette), and the Ghosts with Cole so he can help...
