Ryan Christian Media Coursework What kind of atmosphere and themes are established during the first ten minutes of Blade Runner? To be able to comprehend Blade Runner, you must be familiar with how certain elements help to create atmosphere and themes. There are five elements that help to create this, which are: camera angles, lighting, editing, sound and mise en scene. Firstly, the use of camera angles gives a perception to the audience of how the action will be seen in the film. Different heights of the camera will give different status to characters. Looking down will make people look diminutive and insignificant, whereas looking up will make people look important and have prestige. High and wide angles will make people look small against their environment. Lighting sets the mood and tone of the film. For instance, there is very little light used in the film 'Blade'.
