What is an action film? What is the hero's role in an action film? Action films are expected to bring tension and create an immense atmosphere, in which the audience can feel. They tend to have certain elements which make them "an action film". These are whammos and zingers, combat, speed, and suspense. Whammos and zingers Whammos are the events where action takes place in an action film. This can be anything from an explosion, to a car chase. Between every whammo is a zinger. These are the bits that lead up to the action and could involve anything such as humour, or a suspense- filled dialogue. Combat Combat takes place in the whammo part of action films. Whatever form it may take, combat always appears in action films. Combat can be physical fighting, or can involve props such as cars, and weapons.
