Media studies assignment To what extent does the film, ' The life of David Gale' qualify as a thriller? It is difficult to state a clear definition of a thriller because thrillers cross over many genres of films. However, the single greatest characteristic of a thriller is the obvious one. It "thrills" as someone visualizes it. The plots are scary; the actors are at great risk and the films are made in a way that makes the viewer really want to continue to watch the film. As the mystery style (whodunits), not all or even most mysteries are thrillers. Many murder mysteries are more like puzzles, clever, intriguing, devilish, funny, learned, eye- opening, and so on. However, to be considered a thriller, a murder mystery must have those characteristics that 'thrill'.
