The Opening of the film 'Of Mice and Men' directed by Gary Sinise and the opening of the novel, by Steinbeck climax with the death of Lenny but both start in very different ways. The opening of the film is fast paced and intense whereas the opening chapter of the novel focuses on a descriptive naturalistic style and introduces the most important characters and themes. By the end of the novel, events have turned full circle, so this introduction is very important. The setting is beautiful, and the language shows promise in these "golden foothills." It feels like a very optimistic beginning to the novel this sets the tone for the period in which it was written, during the hardships of the American depression.
