Arguably, this is the appeal of the horror film, together with the opportunity to fulfil any voyeuristic needs. Nosferatu 1922) directed by F.W Murau, was one of the first horror films to be made. Nosferatu, often referred to as the "Grandfather of all horrors" was extremely experimental and started off conventions of the horror genre. The film also reflected anxieties of the time that it was made in by providing images of a town plagued by early and random deaths, which could be said to be a reflection of the fatalities caused by the Great War and the Great Flu Epidemic.
