Before a discussion of this topic can begin, one must define the term 'Americanized' and its meaning within a media context. The Macquarie Dictionary (Delbridge et al, 1996: 54) defines it to be "To make or become American in character; assimilate to the customs and institutions of the United States of America." Within the confides of media, the term 'Americanized' means utilizing the Hollywood model of filmmaking and television programming and replicating them on an Australian screen.
