Identify and discuss the Factors that make Easy Rider (Hopper, 1969) such a key film in the history of American independent film. The importance of Easy Rider (Hopper, 1969) within film history can be accredited to numerous factors. There is no question that the film is both highly celebrated and represented a pivotal turning point in both independent and mainstream film production. The questions I wish to answer or at least debate is simply, how and why an essentially low budget biker movie, made by two young B movie stars, managed to achieve such critical acclaim and world wide recognition. 'In 1969 a low budget motorcycle movie changed forever the way America looks at itself and how films redefine culture' (Shaking the Cage, Kiselyak, 1999) The late sixties were a strange time for America. The assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, along with the election of Nixon caused feelings of unease...
