How genre and narrative are established in the opening sequences of 'Stand by Me' and 'Jaws.' The introduction to a film is necessary to define the genre and narrative of the story. Depending on genre the introduction style will vary. The basic story overview in Stand by Me is told by the main character 'Gordie' as an adult. While Jaws, of the 'killer creature genre,' which is a type of thriller, starts by introducing the main character 'Jaws' using the effects of suspense and tension. In this essay I shall be looking at the elements of narrative, voiceover, genre and music.
