How far do you think the john hurt film of 1984 enhanced understanding of the text? When you read the book of 1984 you get your own views on how people where forced to live and work and what conditions everything was in. But when I saw the film the way in which he lived and worked was a lot worse than I had ever imagined it to be like. In some cases it might of brought over a more complex and thought provoking image of how Orwell might have thought it to be but in others it might have made it a lot more horrific and strange. The book of 1984 was written in 1949 and contains a large amount of words that would hardy ever be used to day and this makes the book quite hard to follow at some stages.
