How Effective Did You Find 'The Others' As A Horror Film? The basic plot of the film is that there is a single mother and her two kids. She has one male child, and one female child who are both photosensitive (they are allergic to sunlight) and so she has to keep all the curtains shut. Before opening the next door in the house it is vital that the one before it is shut and locked, the reason for this is never explained. There is a book of photos called the book of the dead and it has photos of all the people who used to live or work in the house before they all got wiped out by a disease. Her husband is away at war and she sacked her servants. She has no servants and so she puts an advertisement in the paper but no-one replies to it....
