The job of a trailer is to visually excite and convey important information about the film it is marketing to its audience. The trailer that I analysed was trailer C for The Xmen film; this distribution company for this film was 20th Century Fox, it was their job to ensure that the trailer for the film would appeal to its target audience of fifteen to twenty four year old males. I think that they were the target audience for the Xmen film, because science fiction generally appeals more to these individuals, and as we analyse the conventions and denote the connotations we see the genre emerge. We can denote the conventions by studying the media language of the film this includes, camera angles, costumes, props and lighting The colours that are used in the trailer automatically suggest science fiction as does the fast pace, and techno, dance music.
