By Corene Smickle Genre and Narrative in 'Boyz N the Hood' Assignment Course 2003 In the film 'Boyz N the Hood' (1991) directed by John Singleton there are several significant scenes in which the concepts of Genre and Narratives are portrayed to the audience. The opening sequence, like many films, reveal to the audience important signs which are directly linked to he genre of the film which are gangsta, crime and drama. The narrative of the film is also set up in the first 5 minutes and is told in two parts 1984 and 1991. Through the eyes of Tre. Through close analysis of the opening sequence and one other scene from the film, I intend to show how genre and narrative are portrayed in the film, 'Boyz N the Hood'.
