Danielle Roe GCSE English Media Coursework-Film Reviews Girly Magazine Film Review. Donnie Darko is an award winning, love story staring the gorgeous Jake Gyllenhall playing the lead role, Donnie. Through out the well Donnie battles with his emotional problems we battle with our growing jealousy of stunning Gretchen Ross (played by Jena Malone) as she becomes Increasingly close to Donnie. It all begins when the lovely Gretchen is put in Donnie's English class, and told that she should sit next the boy she thinks is the cutest; Gretchen then ponders for a few minutes what to do then is seated next to Donnie. The pair share a smile then carry on with there work. On there next meeting, Gretchen is being harassed by the school bullies after the school floods, Donnie steps in and gets rid of the bullies, and he then walks Gretchen home. As the pair come to a stand-still Donnie ask Gretchen...
