The Role of the City is crucial to many cinematic narratives, although analysis of the relationship between City and cinema, in terms of influencing story and character, seems to have been neglected by many film academics. Through close textual analysis of a number of city films it is possible to examine the way in which a city, or a place within a City, can play an important part in the function of the narrative.
