Examine and evaluate the various techniques and methods that the directors of PIF's use to convey their messages. Public Information Films (PIF's) were designed to form and shape public behaviour. These films were set up by the ministry of information. It was renamed just after the war as the central office of information (COI). Over the years, COI used increasingly more sophisticated techniques. The directors have used humour and seriousness in the PIF's to convey their messages. The central theme in some PIF's is the potential danger of a rabies outbreak in the UK. The message and meaning is conveyed through the use of humour in some and seriousness in others. There are some obvious correlations between the two and will be alluded to. 'Lonely Water' conveys an indispensable message aimed at preventing children from entering dangerous bodies of water - ponds, lakes and rivers. The central character in the film...
